Horseracing Action
In a valiant attempt to diversify my weekend activities, I decided to indulge in yet another form of gambling- horseracing! Today was chosen in particular b/c it was a dollar day special at the racetracks meaning $1 beer, $1 hot dogs, $1 apple pie slices, $1 admission, and $1 drinks. I fully took advantage of this special deal, consuming 4 hot dogs, 1 cup of lemonade, and 1 slice of pie. I actually purchased an additional hot dog, but while my other friend was "holding" it... SOMEBODY decided to snatch it up and store it for me in his stomach. I've always been a sucker for deals and gambling.... and as usual I didn't come out ahead since I lost most of my bets. Strangely enough though, the newbies at horse betting that I was instructing actually came out ahead. This is normally considered beginners luck but when I decided to ride that wave of luck we all ended up losing together! (I probably jinxed them =P)Speaking of betting on horses, I find it interesting that there are those people that consider any form of gambling to be a sinful activity that one should not indulge in. Personally, as a avid gambler, I fervently believe that gambling is merely another form of entertainment. (sometimes it can get quite expensive) If an individual has some extra cash to spare and possesses some sense of self-control not to exceed a specified cash limit amount, then petty wagering should be perfectly fine and should not be considered an immoral activity. The "sinful" part of wagering derives specifically from those that have no self-restraint and end up squandering more then they can afford. As with anything, moderation is the key.. whether it be gambling, drinking, drugs, or partying.
